An exciting new book called “CATS OF THE WORLD” from social media maven “Kitten Lady” Hannah Shaw and her cat photographer husband, Andrew Marttila just dropped this week (October 15)!
It’s a must-read for their millions of fans, a beautiful coffee table book for animal lovers and globetrotters, and a wealth of travel inspo for those interested in animal wellness around the globe.
Over a five-period, the pair visited 30 countries and even more individual communities, an eye-opening and rewarding journey they share with readers.
From India to Argentina and everywhere in between, readers follow Hannah and Andrew on a worldwide journey that took over five years as they work arm in arm with rescues, shelters, and advocates on every continent except Antarctica. It’s uplifting to read about the many big-hearted cat lovers around the world and fun to see how different cats are in far flung corners of the globe.
CATS OF THE WORLD boasts over 750 original photos (all taken by Marttila) of cats in Argentina, Thailand, France, Kenya, Nepal, and everywhere in between. Shaw and Marttila bring readers along for the ride as they share heartwarming and eye-opening stories from feline advocates and cat lovers in all walks of life, exploring topics like feline wellness (veterinary care, efforts to sterilize community cats, etc.); endearing cultural traditions and dangerous superstitions/legends; the pros and cons of cat-driven tourism; and more.
In her signature charming and informative writing style, Shaw describes finding cats slinking between aromatic bags of spices in the markets of Santiago and visiting cat rescues located everywhere from ancient Roman ruins to places of worship.
She opens up about the many ways the US can learn from shelter practices in places like Spain and England and sympathizes with the rigid laws preventing feline care for strays in places like Dubai.

What an incredibly beautiful book!
Us, cats Smokey Joe, Sabrina, Snowflake, Samson, and Tabitha, along with our 5 brothers and sisters in heaven, Son, Jasmine, Casper, Daisy, and Minnie (along with many others) would love to thank our mom and dad for not only rescuing us as sick kittens from the City of Flint but for taking all 10 of us (then) senior cats with them to Arizona in 2021. Our mom knows best, and she and dad rented a motorhome so we could walk around, sleep on the big bed, look out the windows – all of the scaredy-cats amongst us even found their hiding places! We think we handled the stress better than Mom and Dad did!
Half of us cats have passed away since that motorhome ride from Michigan to Arizona. We’ve seen momma cry more than we ever have in our lives; she keeps blaming herself for the stress of the trip, making any symptoms we cats have/had worse. Daddy keeps telling her, “It wasn’t the trip, it was just their time; we knew those five were sick,” but it didn’t help Mom because she loves us and cares about us so much.
That brings us to today. Us remaining five seniors are still having a bone to pick with Mom. Back in June, she brought home 3 solid black Bombay mix kittens from a rescue that was closing: Galileo (Leo), Aristotle (Ari), and Pandora. The serene tranquility of our world has been shattered, leaving us all stunned and unsettled. We are currently facing the terrifying force of three destructive tornadoes, mercilessly tearing through everything in their path, wreaking havoc and leaving a trail of destruction in their wake. Us seniors had a meeting, and we think Mom lost her mind, but she seems to be getting happier now.
Us senior cats and the kittens discussed it, and would love to win a copy of ‘CATS OF THE WORLD’ because we love our mom, and we think she’s the best!
